Parshwanath JI: One of the early traditional forms, Pichwai art is celebrated for its richly decorated compositions and cultural relevance. These tapestries are decorated with intricate details and primarily revolve around religious and cultural themes. Arun Kumar Sharma is a popular artist within the Pichwai form. He depicts Parshwanath as the central figure in this work who was the twenty third tirthankara in Jainism. It is believed that he started the tradition of ‘four-fold restraints’ for monks - don’t kill, don’t steal, don’t lie and don’t own property. The artist has created a work that is rich not only in its representational style but also its subject matter.
